REDNECK RAMPAGE TUTORIAL #5- SPRITE TRICKS written by Matt Newcomb =================================================================================== The best way to view this is to maximize it and select wordwrap from the edit menu. =================================================================================== Making a room over a room: 1) Decide where you want the over/under sector to be.
2) Place a sprite in the map with the S key. Press V to select a texture (wood floor, concrete, etc.). Point at the sprite in 3D mode and press R until it is flat on the floor. Press B while pointing at it to make it Blockable (cannot pass through).
3) Go into 2D mode and move the sprite where you want it. You may have to resize it in 3D mode. In the example map I made a dropped section in the room and put 3 sprites out: Two are laying down and one is on its edge. The first (flat one) is even with the floor, the second (on edge) is placed alongside the first, so that it gives the illusion of thickness. The third (also flat) is directly under the first, but dropped down to meet the edge of the second sprite (on edge). This makes it look like a one-foot thick floor over a cellar. You will also have to rotate the sprite to its proper position in 2D mode by pointing at it and pressing the < and > keys.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Making stairs with sprites: 1) Place a sprite, give it a texture, and press R while pointing at it until it is flat on the floor. 2) Raise it to the height you want it. 3) Repeat for each step. You can add sprites to give them a 3D look, but I just left them as single sprites so you can see how to do this.* You must remember to make each one blockable by pressing B in 2D mode as described above. A blocked sprite will be pink in 2D mode.* ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Making a wire that you can walk on: 1) I used sprite # 1948 for the wire and stretched it out (use the 2,4,6,and 8 keys on the numberpad to resize sprites). Use PageUp and PageDown keys to raise and lower sprites. 2) Make it blockable. That's it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The method used by me to make rooms above rooms is only one way. The Makemap program has the ability to create sectors over sectors, like in the barn and the store in E1L1 of the game. I haven't figured out how to do it yet, but I am working on it. ==================================================================================== This map and text file were created by Matt Newcomb (Newc) and can be put on anyone's page who wants to, so long as they include a link (email or pagelink) to me.
