AFTERWARDS
This document assumes you know how to use Windows Explorer or DOS copy commands. Also
the reader should refer to other RTCM documents as noted. Please read this entire
document before proceeding.
Installing From the Registered 'complete version' 1.3d CD Distributed by FormGen,
Inc
- Insert the 1.3d CD in the drive (no autorun)
- Locate your cd-rom drive and duke CD along the drive paths, you should find the CD
titled marked /Dn3d_reg
- Now locate the file INSTALL.EXE, and run it.
(if the program won't run correctly
see below for 'MANUALLY INSTALL 1.3D'.)
- After indicating the drive you want to install to, it will ask for the path and name of
the directory, with default displayed. (The installer does not have a browse feature so you will need to know where you want it.)
- The installer should have installed the game to the location you
specified.
Quick Setup
- After the Install process run the SETUP.EXE program from the games
root folder, this will configure the game for your system
and tastes.
- Read the DN3DHELP.EXE file completely if you have a question.
It's best to read it, everyone should.
Important Date Note: When using the included installer, the files
copied over have different date/time. When you install on a machine
other than DOS, the dates and times may be present day. This will
PREVENT v1.4 from patching your game. The install date and time's
are unknown since I don't have a DOS machine to test it out.....
Installing From the Plutonium PAK upgrade 1.4 CD
NOTE: You Must Have Duke1.3D CD installed BEFORE installing 1.4
- Insert the 1.4 upgrade CD in the drive (no autorun)
- Locate your cd-rom drive and duke PPAK CD along the drive paths, you should find the CD.
- Now locate the file INSTALL.BAT, and run it.
(if the program won't run correctly for ANY reason see the section below titled
"ALTERNATE INSTALL 1.4 PPAK CD" )
- After indicating the drive you want to install to, it will ask for the path and name of
the directory, with default displayed. (The program does not have a browse feature so you will need to know where you want it.)
Patching v1.4 to v1.5
- Download the ppack15.exe - v1.4 to v1.5 registered patch.
- Install the patch to update your game to full 1.5 Atomic

and tastes.

Alternate Install method for Plutonium PAK upgrade 1.4 CD
NOTE: You Must Have Duke1.3D CD installed BEFORE installing 1.4
- Download the ppack15.exe patch installer (this will replace 1.4 CD installer)
- Insert the 1.4 upgrade CD in the cd-rom drive (no autorun)
- Run the ppack15.exe patch new installer (this will allow you to install 1.4
CD and
update it in the process).
- Follow the directions provided.
- Your Duke3D game now has v1.4 plus the v1.5 update installed.

Installing From the Atomic Edition 1.5 CD Distributed
Exclusively by GT Interactive Software Corp.
- Insert the 1.5 CD in the drive (no autorun)
- Locate your cd drive and duke CD along the drive paths, you should find the CD titled
marked \Atomic15
- Now locate the file INSTALL.BAT, and run it.
(if the program won't run correctly
see below for 'MANUALLY INSTALL 1.5 ATOMIC CD'.)

12:50pm or 12/11/96 1:50pm 3D Realms Patches seem to work on the later
date/time(1:50pm) I don't know why the installed dates vary when installed, this was
noticed on two different systems. It should be noted if you Manually copy the files from the
CD to the Hard Drive, 3D Realms patches won't recognize the files as being original and
they won't install. This could include the EDuke patch aswell.

- Now locate the folder \DN3DINST, and copy it to your Hard Drive.
- Now open the new folder on your Hard Drive and make sure all the files are
UN-checked in the Read-Only attribute.
- Rename the folder name if you want. Default is \DUKE3D

- Launch / Run the game (If upon running the game you receive the error: 'could not find group file 'DUKE3D.GRP' ,
make sure to re-read step 4 above).
- Read the DN3DHELP.EXE file completely if you have a question. It's
best to read it, everyone should.

game the original CD dates are usually intact. This will PREVENT
v1.4 from patching your game. The install date and time's are
unknown since I don't have a DOS machine to test it out.....

- locate your cd-rom drive and duke CD along the drive paths, you should find the CD
titled marked \Atomic15
- Now locate the folder \ATOMINST, and copy it to your Hard Drive.
- Now open the new folder on your Hard Drive and make sure all the files are
UN-checked in the Read-Only attribute.
- Rename the folder name if you want. Default is \DUKE3D
- Open Notepad and place this text on the first line E:\SUPPORT\ (Replace E
with your cd-rom drive letter)
- Save the Notepad file to your Duke directory as CDROM.INI (Rename it if windows add a
.txt extension)

It is not recommended to read the BUILDHLP.EXE - Build
Docs (or the
User Faqs that come with the Atomic CD) found on the CD. The information in those docs are outdated
and incorrect in some areas. Current versions of similar or the same docs are in RTCM's Download Section.
