INTRODUCTION

Here is some informative details about Publisher, Gearbox's '20th Anniversary World Tour' Game (DN3DWT).

Summery:
Price: $20 bucks (Steam Digital DL)
Release Date: October 11 2016
Available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC; Vista and up (Steam Only).
Limited physical editions for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and only for North America beginning on October 18th at Gamestop. (There is no Windows PC physical copies to buy at your local store). Based on the original 3DR Duke Team Code, new code/data done by GearBox Software and Nerve Software. (no source code released).

Gearbox won the exclusive rights to all of Duke games. Any previous Duke3D versions or ports were pulled from the digital market. Then the new and improved Duke World Tour came out (Instead of creating an add-on/patch to add to the existing DOS Atomic Edition game, they made a 'new episode' and an updated game engine, with new gamedata). Existing Duke3D owners found the original price to be too much for what it was. Personally, when WT was announced, I was ready for a 10 buck add-on patch for the v1.5 A.E. DOS game, patching up to the new Windows PC port, either from a CD or download, but they released a entire game instead.

It has flaws, as most other games have. Usually those flaws get fixed over time. World Tour is not fixed, nor is there a hint that a fix, or two or three are in progress. However one patch was released:

Official GearBox Update, PATCH1: (November 2, 2016)

General

  • Restored original sound FX quality
  • Added option to disable auto-aim
  • Updated Duke3D.GRP file to work with source ports, and included original DUKE.RTS file
  • “Use” button now traces to the crosshair, removing the need to crouch to use low buttons
  • Widescreen aspect ratios now increase viewport width (rather than clipping height)
  • Fixed Prima Arena (E5L8) so players can get 100% kills
  • Improved sound ducking when listening to dev commentary
  • Fixed “Clear” and “Reset” buttons in the keyboard config menu having their functionality swapped
  • Pushing up on the right analog stick no longer toggles the run state

Workshop

  • Fixed Workshop Uploader
  • Fixed Workshop map display name issues

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed bug with mini bosses sometimes killing themselves with their own projectiles

BUGS

  • Multiplayer stability, poor server quality and frequent disconnects. (The game uses peer-to-peer networking).
  • Many of the original DOS game exploits remain.
  • Audio Muffle, for some players. (The high and lower quality sounds don't sound great).
  • Sounds play their full length before the same sound repeats. (The DOS game, sound would interrupt the previous sound). Also, the Octabrain hurt sounds play all at once, layered.
  • Poor mouse control due to forced mouse acceleration and smoothing. The horizontal seems the worse. (Original DOS version had better mouse control.)
  • "killing" a boss or mini-boss with the flamethrower will make them invulnerable.
  • Boss, last hit point. On the finishing hit, if you hit a boss with a flame thrower they will become invincible.
  • "Frozen" Shark Bug, they can not be killed.
  • Rewind Function is unstable at times (leading too players disabling it and using quick saves).
  • Bots don’t roam (Is there improvements in bots over the DOS Game?).

Here is a list of short comings, not real bugs.

  • Boss 5 looks like Boss #3 [cycloid emperor] with just a palette change, possibly the same A.I. is used too. (It just stands there in the middle of the field).
  • Boss 5 combat area is too large for the short ranged weapons he uses. (he has a flame thrower that can't even reach you).
  • Mini Bosses; when shot with the incinerator become invincible.
  • Mini Bosses'; blowing themselves up with their own weapons, due to poor positioning.
  • Lighting effect; rough surfaces like rocks and stones have the same reflectivity as glass and polished surfaces.
  • Textures look flat even with their normal maps.
  • Fireflys, new enemy, works well in groups and open spaces, but are not found there.
  • Incinerator looks; it is the Freezer with a very poor paint over.
  • Work Shop excludes the ability to include custom material, textures and actors.
  • Level Editor, is still a secret that mapster32 works to make maps.
  • All previous fan work, maps, mods and entire TCs will not work anymore.
